Bicester Business Update

Town centre – the challenge of maintaining footfall and vibrancy

We share the concerns expressed on Social Media about the health of the town centre and are actively engaged working hard behind the scenes to ensure that this matter remains a topic for action, along with other initiatives such as; Health, Infrastructure and Employment.

We continue to meet regularly with officers and elected representatives of all three tiers of local government as well as having board representation on Bicester Vision and the Strategic Development Board for Bicester. These and other positions that we have, such as on the Traffic Advisory Committee, allow us to put the concerns of local businesses directly to those that can influence and/or bring about change.

The Chamber jointly sponsored, along with Bicester Vision and the Wednesday Business Club, an award in the 2017 Cherwell Business Awards and we were delighted to see both the high standard of applicants from Bicester and that a significant number of the winners came from the town.

During the year we have rebuilt, re-designed and then launched, at our Annual General Meeting, a brand new website which can be found here: http://www.bicesterchamber.co.uk/. As a part refreshing our on-line image we also commissioned a new logo, one that reflects the importance of people to business and to the role of the Chamber.

The new website features a range of opportunities for members and local business support organisations to promote workshops, presentations and events. These can be on either the Events or the News pages. There is also the option for members to list job vacancies and for recruitment agencies that are members to promote their opportunities via the Jobs and Training Page.

We boost the visibility of the above pages of the website using our growing social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. This has been used during the year to promote events, activities and offers of a business nature that are relevant to the local business community and in many cases come from our members themselves – this is just one of the benefits of being a member.

We look forward to building on the excellent working relationship we have with the Bicester Vision Manager and other partners, working in collaboration to boost Bicester as an excellent location for a modern business.

As a voluntary run group, we are always pleased to hear from those interested in supporting our work and helping us maintain the activity that we undertake to make a positive difference for the town’s business. You can contact us via the website.
