Healthy New Town Launch a Success

Organisers and businesses were congratulated following the success of Bicester’s Healthy New Town launch on Saturday the 13th of May.

The Healthy New Town launch celebrated Bicester Town Centre’s 5th Anniversary with a collection of activities for family and children promoting a healthier lifestyle and community collectiveness, organised with support from all the local businesses and sponsored by the Bicester Village Outlet Shopping Centre.

A goodie bag reward was given to everyone who supported the car-free day through use of physically and environmentally friendly ways of travelling to the Town centre for the festivities, including walking, cycling and bus services.

Activities set up to entertain and introduce the public to fresh, lively new hobbies included: Live music; dance performances; charity stalls; Zumba and ballroom sessions at the Methodist church; a Food Festival with cookery demonstrations; free bike MOTS; a board games café, a free open beach in the Market Square, and more fun in Garth Park.

Following the event, Chief Officer of Bicester Town Council, Samantha Shippen, commented:

“Shops, in particular, said they had done better business than they had done in a number of years. They all said that they would welcome events such as this on a regular basis as it had drawn so many people into the town centre and they had not seen the town looking so vibrant and busy for many years. All the feedback has been positive and all have congratulated the organisers.”
